A Tale of Two “Stevias”

Stevia is my favorite sweetener as it is about as clean as you get – free of simple carbs, fructose and the toxins in chemical sweeteners. It is made from the Stevia plant and I use a little pinch in my oatmeal in the morning. My wife also uses it in her cooking. If you want to buy some for yourself, be sure to read the label as many products which call themselves “stevia” are actually other sugars with stevia added. As an example, the labels below.

So true. I use SweetLeaf brand of stevia, a much purer brand than most. They do add inulin fiber to their powder, but I'm cool with that because it is a digestive aid that feeds the good bacteria, which in turn, helps the immune system. SweetLeaf also retains stevia's natural 0 calorie, 0 carb and 0 glycemic index properties due to the lack of additives compared to others, and is the only one wherein only pure water is used during the entire extraction process, as opposed to ethanol, methanol, solvents, and alcohols, or a combo of them that others use during extraction.

Thanks for stopping by and for the tip Yoda. I have been using Now brand but will look for SweetLeaf next time I buy Stevia. Eliot.
