Dream Big

This blog has lots of posts about the power of positive thoughts. Experience teaches us that good thoughts lead to good things and the things we focus on tend to manifest themselves. This has certainly been the experience amongst my most successful friends, mentors and idols who all agree that visualizing big successes was a critical first step in achieving those things.

For those of us that tend to spend a bit too much time in our own heads, analyzing things, juggling ideas or struggling with competing ideas (I am a Pisces if you believe in that stuff), directing our focus towards positive outcomes and things we would like to achieve is a defence mechanism to a large extent – it leaves less space for dwelling on negative things, and who wants to do that??! If you are going to spend energy thinking about things, why not make them good things.

Henry Ford said “if you think you can or think you can’t, you’re probably right.”

Tony Robbins has also said that “our beliefs about what we are and what we can be precisely determine what we can be.” and Earl Nightingale said that “we become what we think about.” Even the Buddha shared similar beliefs. Although the Buddha was not a fan of pure fantasizing, many interpret the Dhammapada to mean that our thoughts become reality.

Who knows? There are many studies that show the health benefits of positive thinking so if it is not true that dreams can be purposely realized, then dreaming about good things is at worst, good for you.

Besides, there are no un-written laws that say you can’t have you want, go where you want or be who you want. Combine thoughts with the right actions and you have a powerful one two punch (see Anything is Possible). So if dreams do in fact lead to the right outcomes, then why not dream big? Your dreams just might be realized. Who wants to pass on that? Not me. Happy dreams.

Most people fail in life not because they aim too high and miss, but because they aim too low and hit ~ Les Brown
